Devoutness and Decadence

The dark ages are enlightened by the glorious reign of the mighty prince-bishops, men of the cloth with spiritual and worldly power. Such „God given“ divinity deserved truly majestic accommodation.

They built St. Mary’s Fortification in the 13th century, the “Residence” in the 18th century and, in the course of time, 64 churches, one of which, to this day, is still the Seat of the Bishop.

For photographers, St. Mary’s Fortress offers a unique and breathtaking perspective, with its massive construction reflected in the Main River.
